THE TECHNIQUE OF NIELLO /FORMAL RESEARCH /THE PROJECT

Period: from 23rd to 25th May 2009
Attendance: 3 days
Shifts and schedules: from Saturday to Monday from 9.30 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 17.30

Lessons will be held in Italian and English

Programme

The course will be developed on the basis of a comparison between industrial techniques present in the Museum objects, an historical analysis of the collection, personal choice on behalf of the participants of an object to be reinterpreted, practical use of proposed techniques, three dimensional construction of a prototype in paper.
At a later stage, making of the piece with goldsmith techniques and application of niello on the finished piece.

The completion of the work will take place in two parts

-choice of a piece of the collection,
-reworking of the form through the techniques acquired
-construction of a prototype

In the second part:

-introductory lesson to the technique of niello with the different stages of composition of the alloy
-construction in the workshop with the use of precious metal: silver with insertion of niello onto the piece made by the participant

The work will develop in the comparison between the industrial techniques included in the collection of the museum, enamels and coloured resins and Niello techniques used by the Master Mario Pinton and other artists of the School of Padua.

A good technical level is required in order to take part in the course. Participants will need to bring their own equipment.
The course will be held with a maximum of 10 participants.
