MONTEBELLO | BERGESIO AWARD 2023-24
CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY AND CRITICAL WRITING
The AGC - Association of Contemporary Jewelry announces a selection, for the awarding of two Prizes for research activities, intended for authors and students of any origin and nationality, in the field of contemporary jewellery, as specified below:
Research Grant 1: GIANCARLO MONTEBELLO PRIZE
The following prize, in the field of contemporary jewellery, is intended for students who have created a jewel or a capsule collection (maximum 3 pieces of jewellery) with innovative characteristics from the following points of view: conceptual, formal, technological, materials, use of traditional of digital techniques.
First place: euro 1500
Second place: euro 1000
Research Grant 2: MARIA CRISTINA BERGESIO PRIZE
The following award is for a critical essay dealing with the most current issues in contemporary jewellery. The essay structure should have an abstract (1270 characters including spaces), 5 keywords, a body of text (12000 characters including spaces)and approx. 5/10 bibliographical references.
The submitted essays will be peer-reviewed by the jury and then resubmitted through the committee's recommendations.
First place: euro 800 and pubblication in a scientific journal.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS GIANCARLO MONTEBELLO PRIZE
All students who have completed (for no more than two years) or are still attending a Course of Study (Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Professional Training Course, PhD programme) related to Design, Fashion and Jewellery, not older than 30 years,are eligible to participate in the Call for Entries.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS MARIA CRISTINA BERGESIO PRIZE
Theorists and critics of art and jewellery design, teachers and scholars, doctoral and independent researchers are invited to participate in the Call for Papers.
The proposed essay must be original and never previously published.
APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Each applicant may submit a maximum of 1 application choosing from the 2 Prize in the Call for applications.
No application fee is required.
Submission deadline: July 17, 2023
The application must be submitted online, in accordance with the application form that can be filled in here.

EXHIBITION AND AWARD CEREMONY
The award ceremony will consist of a physical exhibition of the selected pieces of jewellery and critical texts. A maximum number of 25 authors will be selected for the Montebello Prize and 5 authors for the Bergesio Prize.
Shipping charges and any customs fees for the physical pieces shall be covered by the participants, as well as the costs for the return of the works at the end of the exhibition.
The ceremony, together with the exhibition of the selected works, will be held at a prestigious venue in Milan, which will be announced in due course. An official AGC certificate attesting to the classifications is expected to be issued at the same time as the awards.
The GianCarlo Montebello Prize is supported by the Maestro's daughters, Carlotta and Beatrice Montebello.

JURY BOARD
The jury is the same for both Prizes and will be selected biannually by the curators.
The jury will consist of three internationally recognized experts in the field of Contemporary Jewellery.
For 2023-24 edition, the Jury is composed of: Helen Britton, Liesbeth den Besten, Rita Marcangelo.

IMPORTANT DATES
- call for entries launch 5 February 2023;
- submission of the online application form by 17 July 2023;
- notification of finalists December 15, 2023;
- delivery of final works and texts April 2, 2024;
- concluding exhibition April 2024.
