Creating Jewellery in Resin - workshop with YOKO SHIMIZU
This course is focused on the basics of working with epoxy resin and the exploration of
various possibilities of this material. The students will learn how to mix resin, add colors,
incorporate other materials during the hardening process, give form to resin through
several methods, and some simple techniques to finish the pieces into jewellery.
Exercises:
-a simple silicon mold to pour resin into
-a ring in resin with a part in metal
-a bracelet in resin
-a pair of earrings in resin
-experimentation in combining resin with other materials (paper, threads, wire, objects
etc...)
Tools and non-precious materials as well as handouts on the course are supplied by the school.
Biography:
Yoko Shimizu, originally from Tokyo Japan, studied at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in
Florence. She has her workshop in Florence where she continues to live and work. Epoxy resin is
one of the main materials she works with and has developed her original techniques over the
years. She shows her work in solo and group exhibitions in galleries in Europe and USA. She
worked as an instructor of the Intensive Course at Alchimia from 2006 to 2010.
